One of the Philippines’ oldest transport companies is preparing for its final stop.

Philtranco Service Enterprises Inc. has officially announced the cessation of its business operations effective March 30, 2026. The announcement was made through a memorandum dated February 2, 2026, signed by President and CEO Michael M. Sabban.

According to the memo, the company has been facing serious business losses and is no longer in a position to sustain payroll and operations. Management described the decision as a last resort, stating that all other alternatives had already been exhausted.

“It is with a heavy heart and deep regret that I announce the Official Business Stop Operation,” the memorandum stated.

The notice also acknowledged the employees who have been part of the company’s long-standing legacy, specifically recognizing drivers, conductors, maintenance personnel, and office staff for their professionalism and dedication throughout the years.

Philtranco has long been considered a pillar in Philippine land transportation, serving routes across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao for decades. For many commuters, the brand represents not just a bus line but a familiar presence on highways and terminals nationwide.

With operations set to end on March 30, 2026, the closure marks a significant moment in the country’s public transport history. It also raises concerns about the impact on employees and the communities that rely on long-haul provincial bus services.

Further updates are expected as the implementation date approaches.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
