Davao City — The future of innovation in Mindanao takes center stage as Davao Startup Week 2025 gathers government leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, and changemakers for a week of high-level forums, networking events, and startup sprints. From September 24 to 27, the city becomes a hub of collaboration designed to unlock the region’s full digital and entrepreneurial potential.

The event starts with the GovTech Mindanao Summit, a flagship forum on digital transformation in public service. From smart cities to AI-driven policy, speakers emphasized that technology must strengthen trust, transparency, and resilience in governance.

“This summit is more than a showcase of emerging technologies. It is a forum for collaboration, a catalyst for bold ideas, and a testament to our shared commitment to public good,” ASEC. Romeo Montenegro noted in the opening address.

Connectivity and infrastructure were spotlighted as key drivers of growth. Recent milestones include the PPP Desk at MinDA, created with the PPP Center to assist LGUs in launching projects ranging from schools and hospitals to airports and ports – without having to go to Manila.

The summit also gave startup innovators the opportunity to pitch their ideas before government leaders, technologists, and potential investors. These pitches showcased how local founders are developing solutions that can complement public service and accelerate Mindanao’s digital transformation.

The summit also underscored global engagement, with 25 ambassadors from Manila scheduled to visit General Santos and South Cotabato this week in an unprecedented familiarization tour. The visit aims to update the international community on Mindanao’s real progress and counter outdated travel advisories.

Next day comes the Mindanao Startup Ecosystem Summit, an intersectoral gathering mapping out the innovation landscape. The summit highlights data-driven insights, regional collaboration, and ecosystem partnerships to align Mindanao’s strengths with national and global opportunities.

On Friday, founders meet funders. The Angel Investing 101 Workshop x Davao Investors Mixer will connect early-stage startups with potential investors and funding agencies. Expect an afternoon of learning, followed by an evening of networking, pitches, and new partnerships.

Meanwhile, the Techstars_Startup Weekend Davao runs a three-day innovation sprint where teams build startup prototypes from scratch. From September 25-27 in MinDA Office (Pryce Tower) & FabLab USeP, aspiring founders, students, and professionals will collaborate, test ideas, and bring prototypes to life in one of the world’s most recognized startup bootcamps.

The week culminates with the Davao Startup Ecosystem Awards Night on September 27 at The Pinnacle Hotel, honoring innovators, ecosystem builders, and startups that drive inclusive growth and digital transformation across Mindanao.

From high-level governance discussions to grassroots prototyping, Davao Startup Week 2025 shows that Mindanao is ready to lead in innovation. The message is clear: collaboration, creativity, and connectivity are the keys to building a future where technology empowers communities.

ASEC. Montenegro urged: “Let this space be where challenges are met with creativity, where partnerships are forged with purpose, and where every conversation moves us closer to a more inclusive and digital-ready government – especially here in Mindanao.”

The future of Mindanao’s startup ecosystem has been built through years of collaboration, persistence, and innovation by the region’s founders and ecosystem builders. This week, Davao Startup Week 2025 pushes that groundwork forward- scaling it, strengthening it, and bringing it to the global stage.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
