Davao’s pummelo industry is counting on good agricultural practices (GAP) to improve quality, yield and market access.

Pummelo farmers, produces and technical experts from government and private sector gathered in a two-day training led by Department of Agriculture–High Value Crops Development Program (DA-HVCDP) to enhance and update skills on GAP for the pummelo industry.

Davao pummelo (pomelo), locally known as suha, particularly the Magallanes variety, is highly sought after for its sweet and juicy taste, making it a popular export commodity.

“Through this training, we are able to develop our farming not just in this commodity, but also in valuing good and right practices in agriculture,” said Regional Technical Director for Operations Marie Ann M. Constantino.

The training equipped farmers, extension workers, and stakeholders with practical skills and knowledge across the pummelo value chain, promoting Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to boost productivity, sustainability, and profitability.

Key resource persons from the DA-11 Regulatory Division, Bureau of Plant Industry, and local production and technology experts shared valuable insights on topics including food safety, production technologies, workers’ safety, health and environmental management, and guidelines on Philippine GAP (PhilGAP) certification.
