The Rotary Club of the South Davao, one of the city’s most active and community-centered civic organizations, has officially welcomed its new president, Sonja Garcia, during a ceremonial handover held in Davao City on July 11, 2025.
With decades of meaningful service behind it, the club has been at the forefront of various humanitarian efforts, from organizing medical missions and livelihood programs to supporting education and disaster response initiatives. Under the leadership of Garcia, the club is poised to continue its legacy of service while embracing new ideas to meet today’s challenges.
In her acceptance speech, Garcia highlighted her vision to strengthen the club’s projects on youth development, environmental sustainability, and health advocacy. She acknowledged the hard work of her predecessors and the commitment of the entire membership, noting that Rotary’s work is never about one person but about collective action rooted in compassion and service above self.

Garcia, a seasoned professional and an active volunteer, brings with her fresh energy and a collaborative spirit. Her plans include expanding partnerships with local government units, schools, and private organizations to scale up the impact of their projects, particularly those aligned with Rotary International’s areas of focus such as maternal and child health, peacebuilding, and community economic development. Alongside her is the formation of the Community-Based Rotaract Club of South Davao- the next generation vibrant and purpose-driven student leaders from various schools in Davao.
Garcia’s installation ceremony was attended by fellow Rotarians, partners, supporters and the Rotary District 3860 Governor Jong Fernandez, who expressed confidence in her leadership. He also underscored the importance of continuity and innovation in sustaining the club’s positive impact on the community.

As the Rotary Club of the South Davao embarks on another Rotary year, members and stakeholders are encouraged to rally behind Garcia and the new board of officers in making Davao a better place – one service project at a time.
